With a fetal doppler, you can hear your little baby's heart beat kicking away. When you get your first ultrasound, the nurse most likely let you hear your baby's heart beat through their high tech machine. It is exciting to hear your baby's heart beat for the first time! It is kind of like hearing your baby try to talk for the first time, except you get to hear your baby differently. You get to hear your baby's heart beating strong and fast. Although you will not be able to get a doppler machine as powerful as the one during your ultrasound visits with the nurses, you can still get a fetal doppler monitor that can let you hear your little baby. You can find them in a lot of places that sell baby products, or you can find them online. Different ones will work better depending on what trimester you are in. The more months you have under your belt (is that a pun hah?), the less sophisticated your fetal doppler will have to be. You see, the dopplers that the doctors use are ultrasound machines that take movements, and then translate them into sounds. That might be a little confusing at first, but it is not the same thing as amplifying a sound. When you are in your early stages, you will need to get a very good doppler to detect the baby's heart beat. The further along you or your loved one is, the easier it will be to listen to the little baby growing. You will usually get a set of headphones with your doppler set, and some even come with the ability to record and send the sound to friends and family through email! Make sure you look at a few different fetal dopplers to make sure what you get is exactly what you need. Hearing your little baby in that stomach is a very exciting and thrilling thing to experience, so make sure you get a good quality fetal doppler monitor to hear your little loved one's heart beat!
